Young Judea and Social Action Teen Club

YOUNG JUDAEA IN THE CLASSROOM
In addition to formal Hebrew School classes, we have a number of youth
activities at the FJCC. Our Gimel - Vav students participate in a monthly in-
class Young Judaea program. Sue Grass brings fun activities to our kids,
perhaps a game with some refreshments, that teaches them about the land
of Israel and Israeli culture. Our older students can participate in our FJCC
Youth Group, which is undergoing a transformation for the 5768 school year.
More details will follow over the summer. And our newest addition is our
Social Action Club.
SOCIAL ACTION TEEN CLUB
Working under the name of Awesome World Action Club, the FJCC’s new
Social Action Teen Club is organizing and prioritizing projects to undertake
throughout the year.
The Social Action Teen Club is open to JEWISH students attending any high
school in Hunterdon County (or to any FJCC member families’ teens). No
affiliation with the FJCC is required, and involvement of non-FJCC teens is
highly desirable. The group will meet under the direction of Rabbi Jaffe (and
with the help of parent volunteers).
Students will determine the projects they wish to work on, make
arrangements (travel, buy supplies, schedule, make fliers, etc) and ultimately
implement those projects. Some ideas, but certainly not all, include:
1. Ongoing work/partnership with members of the Developmental Center
2. Sorting and shelving donations to the Food Pantry
3. Working with ARC to paint group homes as needed
4. Organizing a food redistribution program with local bakeries
Students will study (discuss) Jewish values that apply to their overall Service
Learning concept as well as specific projects. Club meetings will consist of
the study of issues relating to projects or potential projects, planning
projects, discussion of the Jewish aspect of these projects, evaluations, and
reflections. The students will select their own leaders and programs.
